Frame and Mullion Glass Sizing
Northern Contours frames do not include glass inserts. To determine the glass insert size (undersized by 1/16” to account for movement / expansion), use the following formula:Door width minus (stile width x 2) + .937 = glass width
Door height minus (rail width x 2) + .937 = glass height
Northern Contours has both retainer clips and panel retainer strips available for purchase.
Mouldings
Mouldings in a variety of styles are available in 8’ lengths. Moulding drawings are not to scale. Please refer to dimensions provided. Mouldings are available in Alder, Cherry, Maple and Red Oak. Other species are available in specific styles. See price list for current offering.Note: Light Rails are available with any Outside Profile shown in the Mortise & Tenon section of the Product Guide. Drawing shown here is with O03. Light Rails will be acknowledged as a slab drawer front on your order.
Valances
Valances are available in three styles and 4 standard sizes: 32” x 5”, 36” x 5”, 42” x 5”, and 48” x 5”. Sides a, b, and c will have no edge detail; side d will be profiled to match door and drawer fronts unless otherwise specified. All valances have a flat shoulder on either side of the arch.
Fillers and Overlays
Fillers are available in fluted or slab styles (slab styles are ordered as drawer fronts). Standard flutes start and stop 1” from each end with 1 flute per width inch. Fillers will have square edges. Overlays will be profiled on all four edges to match doors and drawer fronts unless otherwise specified. Minimum width is 2”; maximum length is 96”.
Lazy Susans
(Mortise & Tenon only)45º Miter Lazy Susan
When ordering a 45º Miter Lazy Susan, we recommend ordering each door with one stile 3/4” oversized (ex: 3” stile for standard 2-1/4” stile width) to keep the stile width on the face constant after 45º miter is applied. For arched doors, indicate which is left and which is right. One stile on each door will receive a square edge (Outside Detail O01). Customers are responsible for specifying changes in dimension and cutting 45º bevel on stiles.
Butt Joint Lazy Susan
Each Butt Joint Lazy Susan has a wider stile on one side of the door to keep the stile width constant on the face. (If the standard stile width is 2-1/4”, you would need one stile to be 3”). For arched doors, indicate which is left and which is right. One stile on each door will receive a square edge (Outside Detail O01). Customers are responsible for specifying changes in dimension.
Appliance Panels
AP1The appliance slot is routed around all four sides. It is available on all mortise & tenon and miter doors. Standard routing as shown. If these dimensions are not appropriate for your appliances, please send a detailed drawing to customer service.
AP2
The 1/4” attachment panel is attached by the customer. It may be ordered cut to size. Call for pricing. Information is for this panel only. The proper door must also be ordered.
Wainscot Panels (Mortise & Tenon only)
Dimensions shown are standard. Optional dimensions are available. Pricing for wainscots will vary based on complexity. For a quote, email a detailed drawing to customer service.
Multi-Panel Products
Multi-panel products can be produced in vertical or horizontal configurations for a variety of applications including tall cabinets, islands and peninsula backs. Standard configuration will center panel between all stiles and rails. If your design varies, send a drawing and contact customer service.Special Center Rail Placement
We recommend that any Mortise & Tenon door over 48” in height be ordered with a center rail. Doors over 48” tall without a center rail will not be warranted for warpage. Please note: doors over 48” will not automatically be manufactured with a center rail; it must be specified by the customer. If ordered, the center rail will be placed in the middle of the door. You may specify where you want the center rail for an upcharge. This requires a drawing showing the distance from the top of the door to the top of the center rail. See price list for fees on standard and special placement center rails.
